From Sept. 2022 till May 2023 I told the story of Iron Galaxy's people. Through brand development and social media recruitment marketing, running social efforts including our blog, all social platforms, and events marketing. Including:
Revitalized our LinkedIn approach to focus on strategic recruitment marketing.
Told the Chicago, Nashville, and Orlando studios stories.
Helped with support comms on projects like Metroid Prime Remastered from Nintendo and The Last of Us Part 1 from Naughty Dog Studios.
From operations to the art department, everyone had a voice at Iron Galaxy. I helped shape the way the studio approaches social today, even if it's lost a little flair without me ;)
Management of Studio social accounts for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and securing new channels like TikTok, and Mastodon.
Created studio life content, recruitment posts, event promotions, and other pieces for social media marketing.
Presented monthly reports & social findings to company stakeholders.
Collaborated with DEIA to make sure we deliver a message rooted in our values of diversity, and inclusivity.
Collaborated with Recruitment to boost their efforts. Through social recruitment marketing, highlight a slice of life in the studio, and employee spotlights to promote culture.
Wrote long and short-form features on coworkers and studio highlighting the people of Iron Galaxy.
Developed social platforms by creating new content, features, and ways to reach our audience
Photographed, filmed, and cataloged content for game and studio archives
Working with operations to stage and host events.
Running our Blog was one of my favorite tasks. I wrote long-form thought pieces and interviewed my coworkers for #MEETIRONGALAXY. The latter is a recurring interview series where we showcase developers, operations, and all employees of Iron Galaxy. This was a joy getting to know so many of my coworkers on a personal level and to give them their flowers they deserved.
The Iron Galaxy brand was exactly what you'd expect, fun, but the trick was showcasing that in a time when people are just getting back into the studio. I shined a light on internal IPs, slice-of-life moments in the studio, and spotlighting employees and their amazing talents. Along with promoting our time at conferences and giving back to schools and volunteer work.
— Using our first fully owned original IP to attract new talent on social.
Recruitment lives on Social Media now. This method was new to me and most others when I started at Iron Galaxy. We took college outreach, employee spotlights, slices of studio life, job listings and so much more and used them all to promote our people-first values.
If you value the opinions of younger developers and the positivity that can be sourced when you see through everyone's perspectives you end up with a positive workforce united together.
The mission I have in everything I do is inclusivity. You can't find the best result unless you take into consideration all people's perspectives. I do this without making it performative. I worked with our DEIA and ERG teams to make sure we were uplifting them not using them for the betterment of the company.
As we get deeper down in the world of social media it's becoming apparent people use culture to benefit themselves. It's become part of the corporate culture of the world. I was proud to say we steered our ship away from this mindset and focused on the betterment of our people.
Iron Galaxy has a unique place in the Industry landscape. Though they have a handful of Original IPs they mostly work with other developers on third-party games. Doing ports, support, and co-development with other major studios. Among others, this included Metroid and Naughty Dog's highly successful franchises, Uncharted and The Last of Us.
This was a challenge we hadn't fully cracked while I was there. Figuring out how to work with legal at other studios so we could say "Hey we did a thing or two on this too" I'm confident that if I get the opportunity we can crack this. In the meantime, it was a dream to be able to coordinate simple tweets with Nintendo on Metroid Prime Remaster and for Naughty Dog's PC Ports. I can even tell you how the cat in the pic works into damage control on a glitchy launch! Just bring me in for an interview. 😁
I worked closely with my friends in operations throughout my time at Iron Galaxy. I would supply flyers for weekly events, and put together the PowerPoint for Company Meetings. I can share more by request but under NDA a lot can't be shown.
This work gave me an inside look at all we were working on and helped me get to know a lot about the company and the industry. In this image, you'll see a series of Mocktails the Head of People and I collaborated on to increase the Employee Engagement of our none drinkers at monthly happy hours. Cleetus came up with the recipes and I designed the recipe cards, drew the drinks, and named them after various games. It was a way we helped boost employee morale.
After Rumbleverse's sunset, the Development team worked on a Game Jam. Copy needs were limited but I helped with dialogue and back story for our game, "UFO Stunt Jam." In this image, you'll see some of my work. The "Mother"ship drops you, a tiny UFO with eyes, off to collect lost cows that were abducted. You need to collect all the cows in time so you can make it back to... We didn't get that far. It was a great time writing for something a little different.
Iron Galaxy was a joy to work at. Here's a post I did in 2022 of their Chicago office.
